Parenting is one of the most important tasks we can ever undertake in life. Through effective parenting we lead our child from infancy to adulthood. Our goal, of course, is to equip them to eventually enter the world of adulthood as responsible and productive human beings. We accomplish this by example.
What experts say is true– reading books to your child is very important. Children learn just about everything by reading, from colors and numbers, to shapes and letters. Experts believe that 30 minutes of book reading each night could have your child on the way to reading before they even reach kindergarten!
If your child must take a maintenance medication on a daily basis, you should always check the pharmacy label and directions, upon picking up each refill. It is not uncommon for physicians or nurses to increase or adjust the dosages as your child’s age and weight increase. Reviewing the instructions at the time you pick up the medication is your best bet and can save your child from health risks.
Remember to reward good behavior with praise and recognition. Children usually hear more reprimands for bad behavior than praise for good behavior and that might become discouraging to them. However, if you praise them for specific good behavior that they have exhibited, their confidence will be lifted, and they will exhibit the good behavior more often.
A great parenting tip is to take time out of your busy schedule to spend with your child. Don’t get too caught up in your work or other things. Your child deserves attention and you should set aside enough time to spend with them from time to time.
In conclusion, our children learn to be productive well-adjusted adults by following our lead. We show them responsibility by being responsible ourselves. We demonstrate the importance of love and nurturing by providing it to them. They learn because we teach. The tips provided above help us be the teachers we need to be.
