New Marsh Visa Card rewards shoppers with free groceries.

YORKTOWN, Ind.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 30, 1995–Marsh Supermarkets, Inc., and National City Bank, Indiana, announced today they will launch the Marsh Fresh IDEA Visa Card November 1. The co-branded credit card, the first of its kind in Indiana, will combine the benefits of Marsh’s existing Fresh IDEA customer loyalty card with all the uses of a Visa card. In addition, Marsh Fresh IDEA Visa cardholders will earn a 1% rebate check on all card purchases, regardless of merchant, redeemable for free groceries at Marsh.


The rebate checks will be issued quarterly in $5 increments. Any customer with at least $500 in total card charges during each calendar quarter will receive a rebate. Customers will present their rebate checks at the checkout; the rebate amount will be deducted from their purchases.


The addition of a Visa co-branded card is the latest milestone in the development of the Fresh IDEA (Instant Discounts Electronically Applied) program begun by Marsh in the spring of 1994. The Fresh IDEA card provides exclusive electronic discounts on hundreds of products weekly to customers, an also serves as a check approval card and video rental card. In addition, Fresh IDEA marketing partners, including the Indianapolis Zoo, provide exclusive offers to cardholders. More than 400,000 Marsh customers are enrolled in the program throughout Marsh’s 79 supermarkets in Indiana and western Ohio.

Customers can apply for the Fresh IDEA Visa Card in any Marsh supermarket. The card has no annual fee and an introductory interest rate of 8.9% through April 30, 1996. Beginning May 1,1996, the interest rate will be prime plus 6.9% for gold cards and prime plus 8.9% for classic cards.
