Leadership Personal Development – How to Inspire People to Make Positive Change

Are you finding that leading people is more effort than you believe that it needs to? Do you feel that something is lacking in your teams efforts and that people are just not inspired to give their all to your organization? If you could learn what it would take to win the utmost devotion of your followers how soon would be put it into practice to get results? If you are truly ready to get your organization to the next level, then these tips are for you:

• Believe first that people want to do their best

The belief that people are basically lazy and want to do the least amount of work for the most money possible is not a mindset which will make you a better leader. Think about what this is telling people about your confidence in them. What kind of effort is this perceived confidence going to inspire? Make the commitment to believe the best about people and they are more likely to perform at their best.

• Embrace failure and help people to learn from it

You may have heard this a thousand times. But are you really practicing it? If not, it is time to reset and be honest with yourself. Chances are that you already know several things which would help you to inspire people to make positive change. The problem is that knowing something means nothing if it is not acted upon. In fact, it eats away at your self-confidence. Giving people a safe place to fail will inspire them to give it their all without having to tip toe around the fear of punishment if they fail.

• Value the input of your followers

Nothing is more frustrating than following a leader who does not value your input. Remember, you may be the leader but the people on the front line have a perspective which you just cannot have. Even if you have been where they are, hindsight is not always objective. Take some time to get feedback from the people who are out getting their hands dirty everyday and really try some of it out. Better yet, make the humbling but life-changing decision to work alongside them, if only for a while. This will win their devotion in a way which you could only imagine.

These simple yet powerful principles will build a trust between you and your followers which will inspire them to follow your lead without questioning or doubt. Then you will find that positive change is much easier and faster than you may have realized.
