Military Money

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) February 21, 2007

A US military ID card is more than just an identification document – it’s also a ticket to military discounts, travel deals and a wide range of other opportunities to save money, according to the latest issue of Military Money® magazine.

The Spring issue, which will be distributed this month to US military facilities across the country, shows how families can find great bargains on shopping, travel and entertainment, education, personal finance help, and much more. This cover story contains one of the most comprehensive collections of military discounts and bargains available anywhere.

Some money-saving tips highlighted in this month’s issue include:

Military Lodges or Temporary Housing. Most people can expect to spend more than $ 100 per night at a hotel room in virtually any major metropolitan area. However, reservations for many of these rooms are available for less than $ 100 per night to military service men and women and many of the rooms include kitchen facilities that can help save money on meals.

Movie, Concert and Museum Discounts: Before paying full price at the ticket counter of the local zoo or movie theater, service members should visit the ITT (Information, Tickets and Tours) office on their installation. Many ITT or entertainment offices offer discounted tickets to museums, parks, concerts, movies and more.

Income Tax Assistance. Many military members are eligible to receive free income tax preparation software that is sold elsewhere for as much as $ 50. Those seeking the help of a professional income tax preparer may visit the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) office, which may be able to prepare and electronically submit their taxes at no charge. For military families who use public tax preparation services, be sure to ask about military discounts.

The article also notes that free financial counseling, in-state tuition and a host of other services are available to service members at discounted or no cost.

Military Money is the first-ever personal finance and lifestyle magazine geared towards families of military service members. Published by the InCharge® Education Foundation, Inc. in partnership with the National Military Family Association (NMFA), it is distributed four times per year, free of charge, through select United States-based military bases, commissaries and family centers, as well as inside the European-based Stars & Stripes newspaper. The magazine addresses such personal finance issues as money management, home and family life for military families, career advice, deployment and relocation and transitioning to the civilian world.
